Tian Kee & Co provision shop was ran by Mr Lim Han
Tian for 54 years before Mr Foo and his wife converted it
into a café. Other than the original signboard, the couple
also kept the 1950s Formica-topped tables, old stools and
whirring ceiling fans and customised zinc roofing in the
cashier areas. Today, Tian Kee & Co has closed following
the HDB’s redevelopment plans. 3

The balconies are placed in a staggered manner to create a visual interest on the facade and when you go the
other side of the block, you realise that the facade is done in an entirely different manner. The interesting lattice
pattern found along the corridors helps to bring breeze and ventilation to the whole corridor. 4
