About Dako
Home to many Singaporeans for the past 60 years, it was a matter of time that Dakota Crescent was set for
redevelopment by the Housing Development Board (HDB). The blocks largely remained unchanged since its
completion in 1958 as they were almost entirely untouched. 1 Built by the Singapore Improvement Trust (SIT),
the predecessor to HDB, flats in Dakota Crescent were what the earliest forms of public housing looked like in
Singapore. 2 Located along the Old Airport Road, the estate was also named after a model of a plane that landed in
Kallang Airport – Douglas DC-3 Dakota.
