Nostalgia &
Singapore Culture
In a bustling city especially one like
Singapore, with the lack of space and the
constant need to catch up with modernity,
the old gets replaced by the new every now
and then. Sights and sounds of construction,
demolishment, and rebuilding are so
rampant that a part of Singapore’s history
gets removed everyday. The speed at which
we are progressing as a nation therefore
amplifies the importance of documenting
our daily lives as the present is aging with the
passing of each day. Growing up and seeing
how Dakota Crescent and many other places
in Singapore are getting demolished to make
way for new buildings and establishments,
it makes me wonder how long I have in my
own neighbourhood before it is deemed as
“old” and gets removed too.
