Project developed in the area of Science

Forms 2AA, 2BA, 2AG, ITCG Niccolini

Activity title “Principles of integrated fight for the olive oil defense"

Choice of the subject:

Taking into account the purpose of the Project, for the definition of the subject matter to be treated it has been assumed as a criterion the educational value of the content in the sense of the maturation of conscious choices, as a citizen and as a consumer, in the areas of agricultural production and food supply. In this context it was decided to develop a search on the main enemies of the olive tree, the corresponding plant protection treatments and the integrated fight modes. This choice has resulted also adequate for its educational and disciplinary relevance, in fact the concept of ecosystem is a key concept envisaged in the Ministry guidelines on disciplinary Science skills.

Given the reduced number of hours and the lack of a biology lab in the school, it has been chosen to fill in a paper on the subject. The contact with the reality of agricultural practices has been achieved thanks to two field trips and two meetings with professionals who have recounted their experience.

The choices have been made directly by the teacher, in fact students face this year for the first time the study of biology and did not have the appropriate knowledge to be able to define a search area. In any case, the work outline was presented to students as a proposal, to be discussed and confirmed.

Times:

I decided to start work in the second half of the year, to avoid excessive workload and overlaps with the activities started by colleagues of other subjects, but also to have time to build the framework of knowledge and skills necessary to understand the issues related to the agronomic choices with concern to the environment protection and the consumer. Tasks and materials have been handed out just before Christmas holidays and the completion of the work was requested for March.

Objectives and methods:

specific methodologies have been defined in relation to behavioural and cognitive goals, as briefly specified below.

Objective:

to enhance the ability to work in groups and develop a sense of respect for the work of others.
