Learning from the experts - A hands on experience on site
Towards the end of the school year and the first year of our Erasmus project, an official three day visit was organized by the school to be materialized on the actual site where the mastic trees grow and are cultivated, on the island of Eastern Aegean Sea of Chios. The students having worked throughout the year on an environmental project on the climatic conditions that are beneficial to the Mastic trees as well as on the know-how of the difficulty in growing and harvesting, they made a journey and saw first-hand and from a close range, all those things they had read or learned about..They had the opportunity to be shown round by our stakeholders to the Mastic villages, to the factories that produce the famous aromatic chewing gum and all those cosmetics, juices and medicines they were interviewed by the local TV channel on their project and impressions so far and on top of that they enjoyed digging the soil around the mastic trees and learning how the valuable tear like drops are taken out and collected.
