Painting oranges
Oranges, like many others food products, are part of our daily life. That´s why
famous artists have made many works based on these products. In this case, we will
focus on how oranges appear in the pictures of different painters who became very
famous through the years.
In the following section we show an activity based on the research of how oranges
have appeared in many famous paintings of renowned artists. Here we got some
examples.
Still life with oranges and wine, Agustín Segura
Agustín Segura was a Spanish painter, Born in Rate though he lived in Seville and
Madrid. He is the brother of painter Enrique Segura. Rewarded with the Great Cross
of Alfonso X the Sabio. He studied in the Royal Academy of Fine arts of Seville.
His works are exposed in London, Brussels, Lisbon, Milan or Paris.
In this picture there is a table with a bottle of wine behind one wineglass. There are 4
oranges and a blue vase with white reflections. Next to the glass we find a plate with
rinds of orange. The bottom is of ocher colour. In this picture we can find very dark
tonalities.
The picture is very realistic and expressive, it shows us food and elements that we
often take. This old painting is a classic type wine cellar.
