Portuguese students win a contest to bring life to
Mars!
A group of university students is going to make
plants grow on Mars. These young people won a
contest promoted by "Mars One" and they will be
sending seeds to the red planet on an unmanned
lander mission that the Dutch foundation is going to
put forward in 2018.
"SEED", developed by four students from the
University of Porto, two PhD students from Portugal's MIT and the University of
Madrid, won the "Mars One University Competition", leaving behind 35 other ideas
from other universities from all over the world.
The Portuguese proposal, which was chosen to be in the top ten by Mars One, won
an open voting made by the public that, for the first time, was invited to decide what
project should have the extraordinary opportunity to land on Mars.
This project should inspire and motivate everyone to keep working in the name of
science to help develop and experiment new technologies.
The co-founder of Mars One, Arno Wielders, showed much appreciation for the
high quality university proposals and the amount of effort put into their preparation.
