Study confirms that avocado is good for the heart
Eating an avocado per day reduces bad cholesterol
and many other things that affect our heart health. The
fat and the fibres that exist in this fruit are responsible
for this effect on people.
This study was published this month in the American
Heart Association newspaper. There were 45 patients
between the ages of 21 and 70. They were divided into
groups according to their healthy, excessive and obese weight.
After having consumed an average American diet for two weeks, study
participants were submitted to three different healthy diets to lower bad cholesterol
(LDL).
Diet one was low-fat, diet two was moderate-fat, and diet three was moderatefat with the inclusion of one Hass avocado per day.
The two moderate fat diets both comprised of 34 percent of calories as fat, while
the lower fat diet provided 24 percent of calories as fat.
Every participant followed each test diet for five weeks with a two week break
between each diet.
The study showed that in comparison to the standard American diet, LDL (bad
cholesterol) was 13.5 mg/dl lower after consuming the diet with the avocados.
