Marriage Equality by Mark Addison Smith My partner and I entered into a civil union in 2011. A clerk with red, white, and blue-painted fingernails at Chicago's City Hall upgraded our civil union to a marriage in 2015. She stamped our paperwork and declared: You've now been married four years! Our history changed in seconds. Following the 2015 Supreme Court ruling granting US marriage equality, then- President Barack Obama proclaimed: This decision affirms what millions of Americans already believe in their hearts: when all Americans are treated as equal, we are all more free. Mark is New York City-based artist. Permanent collections include MoMA Franklin Furnace, Tate Library, Watson Library at The Met, MCA Chicago, Kinsey Institute, and the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay + Lesbian Art. His daily archive of overheard-conversation drawings, You Look Like The Right Type, is now in its tenth year.
