As you gain con¿ dence
with the initial ‘ball back
in the stance’ and hands
‘pressed’ forward set-up,
you can begin to experiment
with ball position and hand
position and see how it
affects the À ight of the ball.
Another element in the set-
up of the chip shot is the
position of the hands on the
grip. The lower your hands
are on the grip, the more
control you will have for
shorter, more delicate shots.
Conversely, by moving your
hands closer to the end of the
grip will automatically give
you more distance. Placing
the ball in the center of your
stance and your hands ‘down
the zipper’ will increase the
loft of the shot. One thing
to keep in mind, the hands
should never lie behind
center of stance, nor the ball
be further forward than the
left foot, or further behind
the right foot (unless you’re
faced with a very unusual
situation).
The hands should
never lie behind center of
stance, nor the ball be
further forward than the
left foot, or further
behind the right foot.
