Club News The Poona Golf Club league concludes in style Winning Team- Panchshil Aces Player of the Tournament- Dinanath Mahajan he Poona Club Golf League 2019’ began on January 25th and was a 3 day affair that got over with much aplomb and fanfare. The 3 day league was played between eight teams at the magni¿ cent Poona Club Golf Course which is the only 18 hole golf course in the city spread across about 100 acres of lush greenery. Andrew Pinto, Chairman of the league said, “We are proud that the ¿ rst gol¿ ng league gained so much popularity and had raised awareness about this sport. Golf is gaining momentum in the country and we are happy that we provided a platform for budding players to hone their talent for the sport. The league was played between eight teams with 12 members each. This platform also gave a big boost to women and junior players as it was mandatory for each team to have atleast one lady, one junior and one senior player in each team. The eight Ajit Agarkar - player for Syska Swinging Sultan teams that competed against each other were Yohan Poonawalla Eagles, Roary’s Lions by The Westin Pune, Panchshil Aces, Filtrum Eye of the Tiger, The Holey Ones by Vascon, Amazing Albatrosses by the Kalyani Group, The Angry Birdies by Shirke and Swinging Sultans by Syska. Some of the marquee players included Dr. Date for Poonawala, Rohan Dholepatil for Roary’s Lions, Pratik Nimale for Panchshil, Shishir Donde for Kalyani Amazing Albatrosses, Amit Bhattachrya for Vascon The Holey Ones, Jay Shirke for Shirke The Angry Birdies, Aaron Rocky for Syska Swinging Sultans, Col Dhar for Filtrum Eye of the Tiger amongst other talented players. The organizing committee comprised of pro¿ cient members such as Swastik Sirsikar (Captain), Andrew Pinto (Chairman), Indraneel Mujgule (Committee Member), Aditya Deshmukh (Member) and Aditya Kanetkar (Tournament Director). Bhandarkar- Syska Swinging Sultan Golfer of the tournament- Dinou Mahajan - Panchshil Aces DLF HOSTS 14TH INVITATIONAL CADDIE CHAMPIONSHIP To promote the spirit of golf camaraderie amongst the golf communities across the country, DLF5 organized 14th Invitational Caddie Championship at the renowned Gary Player golf course of DLF Golf and Country Club. Caddies from different states across the country participated in the one-day tournament. The tournament was played between 38 teams consisting of 116 players. The players from the golf clubs of cities like Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Ambala, Bangalore, Kolkata, Karnataka, Chandigarh, Gorakhpur, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mumbai, Sitapur, Mathura, Mohali, Nagpur, Pune, Shimla and many more competed against each other for the trophy and many attractive individual prizes including a car for ¿ rst prize and a motorcycle for second. The Lyndale Golf Course Mussoorie was adjudged the winner of the tournament while 56 G o l f P l u s FEBRUARY 2019 Vikram of DLF and Rajesh of Panchkula backed ¿ rst and second individual prizes respectively. “Needless to mention, caddies are an integral part of Golf. All the operations are majorly dependent upon them. And it`s important that they know they are part of Golf community as much as those on greens. This championship is to reward the spirit of sportsmanship amongst caddies across the country who contribute day and night in the service of this wonderful game.” said Vishal Bharti, VP Operations, DLF Golf and Country Club. DLF Invitational Caddie Championship is an integral part of DLF Golf and Country Club which started sixteen years ago as a local tournament for the caddies of Delhi and NCR Golf clubs has panned out today to encompass clubs from all around the country.
