Tyler Duncan was just worried about regaining his TOUR card. He needed an 11th-hour Hail Mary, a T4 in the ¿ nal event of the recent Korn Ferry Tour Finals, to do it. Professional golfers are always days away from a life-changing achievement, though. And that was the case for Duncan, who won his ¿ rst PGA TOUR title Sunday at The RSM Classic. The 30-year-old turned pro in 2012. This was his ¿ rst win in more than 150 starts on PGA TOUR-sanctioned tours.“You never know, this is a crazy game,” Duncan said, “It can go several different directions.”His biggest win before this week was the Indiana State Amateur. Duncan started the week ranked 378th in the world. On Sunday, he held off the highest- ranked player in the ¿ eld and the hottest player on the PGA TOUR. Duncan made a 25-foot birdie putt on the ¿ nal hole of regulation, then birdied the second hole of a sudden-death playoff with Webb Simpson to win his ¿ rst PGA TOUR title. Duncan ¿ nished at 19-under 263, shooting a ¿ rst-round 67 at Sea Island’s Plantation Course before shooting 61-70- 65 in the ¿ nal three rounds on the Seaside Course. The top three players who accumulated the most birdies (or better), beginning with A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, and concluding at The RSM Classic in Sea Island, Georgia, were awarded with $300,000, $150,000 and $50,000, respectively, for charitable donations to the players’ choice of children- and/or family-focused charitable organizations that are building the middle-market leaders of tomorrow. WASTE MANAGEMENT PHOENIX OPEN REPEATS AS PGA TOUR TOURNAMENT OF THE YEAR he Waste Management Phoenix Open was one of 10 tournaments recognized with “Best Of” awards by the PGA TOUR at the TOUR’s annual Tournament Meetings on Nov. 20. For the second consecutive season, the Waste Management Phoenix Open was named the PGA TOUR “Tournament of the Year,” marking the fourth time (2014, 2015, 2018 and 2019) in the last six years the event has taken top honors. The Phoenix-area tournament also won the “Best Integrated Marketing” award for its engaging and creative year-round integrated marketing plan. The 2019 Waste Management Phoenix Open, won by Rickie Fowler, continued to reach new levels with its fan experience, marketing and social media strategy, and charitable impact. In recent years, the tournament has enhanced the overall experience for general admission holders, adding and expanding public venues along the closing stretch of holes at TPC Scottsdale, beginning with its famous coliseum-style 16th hole. As part of a sold-out, four-night concert series, more than 38,000 fans enjoyed 11 musical acts, with headliners including Old Dominion, Jake Owen, The Chainsmokers and Snoop Dogg.
