2018
The IGU Eastern India Amateur Golf
Championship is one of oldest (1892)
amateur tournaments of the Country with a
rich history of over a century, traditionally
played at the prestigious RCGC in Kolkata
to always coincide with Christmas week
making the glitter of the festive season
spill onto the club house. For the fi rst time
in its history the Eastern India Amateur
Golf Championship 2018 was held outside
Kolkata on the challenging 18 hole Golmuri
Golf Course in Jamshedpur. The congenial
weather with winter just setting in and the
excellent course condition added to the
excitement of the tournament.
The event was played over 36 holes of
stroke play and top 32 players qualifi ed into
the match play event played over the course
of the week. The event saw participation
from the top amateurs of the country from
the IGU Order of Merit. Varun Parikh from
Ahmedabad qualifi ed as No 1 player for
the match play event. The event saw Varun
Parikh, Kartik Sharma, Girraj Khadka
qualify for Round 2 along with local talent
Kurush Heerjee.
Seven local players participated in the
stroke play and after two days of a grueling
game, three qualifi ed to make the cut for
Match play - Kurush Heerjee, Navtez Singh,
Aditya Panchamiya. While Navtez and
Aditya were eliminated in the 1st Round of
match play, Kurush had upped his game and
went on to play in the 2nd Round.

made a birdie and won the
2018 Eastern India Amateur Golf
Championship. Mr Sanjiv Paul,
Vice President of Tata Steel and
the Golf Captain of Jamshedpur,
was the Chief Guest at the function
and gave away the prizes.

Singh Ahlawat, Aditya Chahal and
Girraj Singh Khadka. Kurush was playing
Anant Singh Ahlawat, one of the top ranked
golfers of the country. Kurush gave him a
tough fi ght generally playing very good
golf and winning all previous three matches
on the last hole; but it was Anant who
triumphed in the end.
The fi nals were played over 36 holes
between Anant Singh Ahlawat and Girraj
Singh Khadka. The match came down to the
GolfPlus
last hole where Girraj Singh Khadka made
a birdie and won the 2018 Eastern India
Amateur Golf Championship. Mr Sanjiv
Paul, Vice President of Tata Steel and the
Golf Captain of Jamshedpur, was the Chief
Guest at the function and gave away the
prizes. The enthusiastic golfi ng fraternity
turned out in large numbers (nothing unusual
really) always supportive of Sports in
general and Golf in particular in this sports
crazy city of Jamshedpur where the tag-line
reads ‘Sports is a way of life’...
