“You know what? I’m going to ask the neighbors if they
would let you stay with them,” Molly said.
Molly knocked on her neighbors’ doors and asked if they
could bird-sit her parrot.
“I’m sorry, Molly,” Mr. Evans said. “My dog doesn’t like
birds.”
“I’m sorry,” Mr. Tobias replied. “We’re going on vacation
too.”
Eventually every neighbor politely said “no”.
Molly knew the truth behind the polite answers. Everyone in
the neighborhood was annoyed by Pico’s loud voice, so they
didn’t want the noisy bird in their own house.
What am I going to do? Molly thought sadly. I’m going to
have to tell my niece that I can’t accept her gift. I can’t leave Pico
and Miau alone, and I definitely don’t want to put them in the
shelter.
