After a short awkward silence, Daniel gathered the courage to ask,
“Do you… are you in a… are you dating anyone?”
“No,” Sofia answered. She shook her head slightly. “You?” she
asked, deep down hoping for a ‘no’ answer.
“Me neither. Please don’t laugh, but I never found a girl I could feel
as close to as I felt with you when we were children. And I never forgot
our first kiss… our only kiss.” He bowed his head, and then looked up
at Sofia through his thick lashes.
“Yes, we were close. I can’t believe we had changed so much that
we didn’t recognize each other,” Sofia agreed dreamily, remembering
the wonderful, adventure-filled summers they spent together.
“Me too, but I’m so happy that we’ve found each other.”
