Sulfites
I learned that sulfites can trigger asthma symptoms in some people.
Grandma knew it by paying attention to her symptoms. Sulfites are
used as a preservative and can be found in bakery goods such as
cookies, tortillas, waffles, pie/pizza crusts, and breads containing
dough conditioners.
The following also contain sulfites:
Beer, wine, wine coolers, cocktail mixes, hard cider;
Bottled lemon and lime juice;
Canned and frozen vegetables;
Condiments such as horseradish, relish, pickles, olives, wine
vinegar;
Dehydrated, pre-cut or peeled potatoes;
Dried fruit that is packaged by using sulfites;
Fresh grapes (sulfites can be used on grapes as a fungicide);
Gravy;
Jams and jellies;
Molasses;
Potato and tortilla chips;
Processed cheese;
Shredded coconut;
Shrimp, scallops, lobster, crab, clams;
Soy protein products such as tofu;
Soup, noodles, and rice mixes;
Tea concentrates and instant tea;
Vegetable juices (store-bought with preservatives).
Ideally, your diet should have limited quantities of carbohydrates,
fats, and proteins.
Grandma avoided foods that generally cause phlegm, such as
rice, sugar, bananas, papayas. Limit fried foods and foods that are
