Suitable for ages 8 to adult 100 GILROY • MORGAN HILL • SAN MARTIN Painting with layers using painting techniques There is nothing more exciting than seeing children really engage in the creative process. This layering project definitely does that because it incorporates physical move- ment in the splattering, and the need to concentrate on one layer at a time! Immediately the child feels it is going to be fun, the pressure is lifted and the fear to do something “right” is gone. We learn a lot when we are not “up tight” and fearing we “can’t” do something”. I don’t know how many times I have heard “I can’t draw”. I say, “Forget that! Yes!! YOU CAN !” and you get there by fun steps to engage your creative mind. This process teaches critical thinking, color choice, color mixing , selection of brush size and how to use the brush for different effects and it will all seem so EASY! Working in layers forces focus on one layer at a time. Every layer should show through at the end. The goal is learning patience, trust in themselves and their choices, and just having fun with the process. The freer the child is…the more their creative mind comes into play. Praise each step—encourage —and point out areas that are beautiful in color, form and texture. Do not worry about drawing or the end result. We are learning techniques that can be applied over and over in future paintings. We are making the child confident in his/her choices, their creative selection & ability to bring out the best that is inside them. They will be eager to experiment again and paint with a passion. june/july 2019 gmhtoday.com KIDS Flower Painting with Acrylic
