POPPY JASPER INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL A LOCAL TRADITION REVITALIZED WITH NEW BRANDING In April, downtown Morgan Hill and Gilroy hosted the Poppy Jasper International Film Festival (PJIFF), a local tradition revitalized with new branding, venues and filmmaking programs for the community. Nearly 90 films from around the world were screened over four days, with “Best of Festival” winners chosen by a panel of jurors, and Audience Choice awards. Notable films included 2018 Oscar nominee “Watu Wote,” “Cesar’s Last Fast,” a documentary about Cesar Chavez that premiered at Sundance, “Black Head Cow,” which screened at the Berlinale, and “La Mission,” starring Benjamin Bratt and Directed by Peter Bratt. Jayson Stebbins entertained the audience as emcee. Celebs included Randy Spendlove, Grammy-winning Paramount Pictures executive; Kevin Rubio, Emmy winner, writer and filmmaker; and Chike Nwoffiah, an international film industry leader. Along with TODAY , major sponsors included the Léal Granada Theater, the City of Morgan Hill, and Holiday Inn-Morgan Hill. PJIFF will return to Morgan Hill and Gilroy in April 2019.
