At this point we were really getting into the whole experience and were savoring every bite . With our entrées on the way , we ordered a bottle of Martin Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon . Maurizio ’ s menu is broken up in typical Italian fashion with a Primi and Secondi Piatti . We decided to follow custom and each couple ordered a Primi ( First ) and Secondi ( Second ) Piatti ( Plate ). From the special menu , Tim and Janice opted for the Primi Piatti , Short Ribs Ravioli ( Ravioli filled with short ribs and served with pancetta , sautéed caramelized onions , in a bed of fresh tomato sauce ), and Secondi Piatti , Petrale Sole ( Pan-seared sole served over marinara covered angel hair pasta and topped with arugula ). Tim declared the ravioli were the “ best restaurant ravioli ” he ever had . Janice described the sole as “ cooked to perfection , the pasta was not overcooked , and the sauce was light and delicate .”
J . Chris and I ordered off the regular menu . Our Primi Piatti was the Orecchiette con Broccoli ( Fresh orecchiette pasta , broccoli , chopped fresh tomatoes , garlic , olive oil ). Our Secondi Piatti was Vitello Saltimbocca ( Veal scaloppini , prosciutto , mozzarella , roasted potatoes , seasonal vegetables ). J . Chris enjoyed the Orecchiette . It was almost a “ comfort food .” As an entrée she regretted that she did not order it with the optional shrimp or chicken . The Vitello was unique and spectacular . The crispy prosciutto and perfectly-prepared veal were another great combination . Overall , the second hit of the evening was the ravioli . They were something worth trying again and again .
After such a great meal we could not leave without trying some dessert . On the suggestion of our server we opted for the Lemon Ice Cream Pie ( Graham cracker crust , layers of French vanilla ice cream and lemon curd and meringue ) and the Bread Pudding ( Classic bread pudding with bourbon sauce ). Both were exceptional . The Lemon Ice Cream Pie was the third hit of the evening . It was over the top delicious . We found that with a little warning , whole pies can be ordered to go for that special occasion .
Even with a lot of typical Italian “ hand talking ” we managed to not spill or break anything that evening except our diets . Maurizio ’ s is a special place that treats guests to a very authentic Italian experience . Our suggestion ; be adventurous and order off the special ’ s menu .
