Dignitaries at Tour Press Announcement (l-r) Morgan Hill City Councilmember Rich Constantine, Morgan Hill Police Chief David Swing, San Jose City Councilmember Johnny Khamis, Amgen Tour Ambassador Freddie Rodriguez, Morgan Hill Mayor Steve Tate, San Jose Sports Authority Executive Director John Poch, MHUSD Superin- tendent Steve Betando, and Morgan Hill City Manager Christina Turner.   May is National Bike Month And Morgan Hill is making the most of it with the Amgen event as well as other activities. Among the downtown merchants looking forward to hosting the event is Bike Therapy, a cycling shop on Depot Street owned by Jodi and Doug Hall. According to Jodi Hall, “We have staff and customers who race, who’ve worked for the Amgen Tour of California, and who attend the race as spectators every year. This race is a wonderful opportunity to inspire community health and fitness through cycling.” “Spectators will get to see these international superstars warm up, sign in, start and finish the race, and talk with some of them afterward. Many of these same riders will be competing at the Tour de France in July!”   The Halls are working with the tour organizers, the City of Morgan Hill and others on a race-day event. The City’s Economic Development Director, Edith Ramirez, said the downtown will be the hub of all the excitement on May 16th with a “lifestyle festival” featuring cycling gear and health and wellness products from various vendors. According to John McKay, President of the Morgan Hill Downtown Association, there’s a collaborative effort underway that might also include other attractions along Monterey Road in the downtown area— possibly even a post-race community gathering with live music, refreshments and food. He said the City has been working diligently to mitigate impacts to commuters during the Time Trial’s road closures and emphasized that this event is “a big opportunity for Morgan Hill . . . stay tuned for more details.” Learn More AEG, Amgen Tour of California, Bike Therapy, City of Morgan Hill, San Jose Sports Authority, (to volunteer, email Carrie Benjamin, Specialized Bicycle Components, 20 GILROY • MORGAN HILL • SAN MARTIN APRIL/MAY 2018
