Enjoy this re-creation of an 1880s logging town.Roaring Camp is a heritage railway with authentic 1880s steam locomotives operating on a Redwood Forest Steam Train excursion. The Lick Observatory, located at 7281 Mount Hamilton Road on Mount Hamilton, is owned and operated by the University of California. It fi rst began operations in 1888 as part of the University of California. Today, Lick serves astronomers from all eight UC astronomy campuses, and at any given time, over 100 observers are pursuing science programs at Lick. Lick also has a mandate to communicate the knowl- edge and thrill of astronomy to students and to the public. Annually, 35,000 adults and children visit Mt. Hamilton. The Summer Visitor’s program features lectures by renowned astronomers and welcomes visitors to view the cosmos through the 36-inch Great Refractor. Informational exhibits are featured at the Main Building where teacher-training workshops for K-12 teachers are held.
