COMMUNITY DIGEST In TIDBITS FOR AND ABOUT GILROY • MORGAN HILL • SAN MARTIN LEADERSHIP MORGAN HILL ANNOUNCING CLASS OF 2017 Leadership Morgan Hill has launched the Class of 2017 on their nine-month journey to hone their leadership skills and study deeply all aspects of the community in which they live or work. The LMH community leadership development program and community volunteers will help class members, already accomplished leaders, to become even more effective in making a difference in Morgan Hill. In January, the class met for an orientation, and also held a week- end retreat at Vallombrosa Retreat Center in Menlo Park. They will be participating in all-day intensive briefings including an Education Day, State & Local Government Day, and a visit to the state capitol in Sacramento for a two days of session in March. GILROY FOUNDATION LACORTE AND BLANKLEY JOIN BOARD Karen LaCorte Marie Blankley 32 GILROY • MORGAN HILL • SAN MARTIN The Gilroy Foundation is governed by a Board of eleven local community leaders who serve a three year renewable term. In 2017, the Board proudly welcomed two new members, Marie Blankley and Karen LaCorte. Marie, a native Gilroyan, has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1988. She is a member and past board member of Gilroy Rotary and the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce, a former two-term planning commissioner for the City of Gilroy, current treasurer and volunteer for the Gilroy Youth Task Force, and President of the Gilroy Assistance League (GALs). Karen, who pens a column on Etiquette and Manners for gmh Today, grew up in Gilroy and has been actively involved at St. Mary School, Garlic Festival, Leadership Gilroy, and Arts & Culture Commission. A past Woman of the Year for the Chamber of Commerce, Karen was a Hearts of Gilroy award recipient and the Silicon Valley Philanthropy award recipient. MARCH/APRIL 2017 gmhtoday.com
