Educating Our Kids

W
e are fortunate that our South County schools not
only perform well against countywide measures but
continue to innovate and improve all the time.
Our educational leaders have worked hard over the past
several years to transition schools from STAR to Common Core
and California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress
(CAASPP) standards. They’ve adopted new teaching methods
and curricula, and embraced new standards for student testing
and performance measurement. The expectation is that all the
hard work is bearing fruit and will be reflected in measurable

improvements in overall achievement across our diverse student
population.
TODAY reached out to the superintendents and a
number of principals in the Morgan Hill and Gilroy Unified
School Districts who shared some highlights from our public
schools. We’re grateful for their responsiveness during their
summer break. With so much happening on the education
front, we plan to provide our readers with a series of articles,
featuring a variety of South County schools, over the course
of the 2016-17 school year. Stay tuned!
