The Downtown Scene…Morgan Hill
Downtown Is Open For Business During Construction!
Even though the street narrowing project did not receive approval from the City
Council, extensive efforts to make Downtown Morgan Hill more attractive and
vibrant continue. Residents are encouraged to support downtown businesses.
The Parking Structure Utility Undergrounding
The structure is taking shape. Some
Thursdays will have a 5:00 am
construction start time. The structure
itself is scheduled for completion in late
September; landscape and hardscape
by the end of October and project
completion in mid November. Views of
the building progress are available through
the fence. Huntington Station is open
during construction. Work continues on 1st, 2nd
and 4th Streets. Expect parking
interruptions and traffic delays.
Tentative completion in mid
December
Third Street Plaza
Limited work at this time. Some parking
interruptions. More hardscape construc-
tion in September & October.
Monterey Road Streetscape
Work continues on the inside lanes; work
will move to the left (median) lanes when
the inside lanes are completed. Tentative
completion is scheduled for the end of
October.
Downtown Parks
Plans are being shared with
community and the Parks
& Recreation Commission.
Conceptual design will go to
City Council in September.
Downtown Art Projects
Are progressing as planned. The
Third & Monterey temporary
Pop Up Park will stay in place till
January. Expect some minor inter-
ruptions and parking lot closures
due to survey work.
The Downtown Redevelopment Properties Are All Progressing
Property #1 The Granada and the Downtown Mall
The City has entered into exclusive discussions with
Leal Vineyards LLC. Leal’s plans to reopen the Granada as
an entertainment venue and demolish the mall and construct
a market hall/restaurant and boutique hotel.
Property #2 The South East corner of 2nd and Monterey
Lonestar Development has closed escrow and is working on
additional issues.
Property #3 Depot Center
City Ventures completed their due diligence for the purchase
option. Relocation efforts are underway for nine eligible
downtown businesses.
Property #4 Third and Monterey (location of the Pop-Up Park)
The City is negotiating exclusively with Kenneth Rodrigues and
Partners, Inc./Imwalle Properties, Inc. on the development of this
site. Initial plans call for two restaurants, outdoor dining and some
retail space.
