on the back, in reverse order (detail first, then the subject then the
background). Normally you’d paint the sky, the table, the apple, the
shine on the apple, and then the fly on the shine on the apple.” It’s
hard for some to grasp that process. Paint also dries very quickly on
glass, demanding that you work very fast. Whitney practiced and
taught herself how to master these new challenges.
Some say windows are the eyes of a house much like our eyes are
the window to our soul. It’s through these eyes that Whitney finds a
deeper satisfaction: “My favorite part of reusing these windows, that
are often eighty to one hundred years old, is that so many people
looked through them over the years. They hold so much more his-
tory or promise than merely a blank canvas.” Today Whitney Pintello
still paints theater sets and murals (a recent project was the new
Downtown Historic Paseo in Gilroy) but she holds dear the beauty of
paint on old glass.
Whitney has a BA in Creative Arts from San Jose State University
and is the Associate Marketing Coordinator for Articulate Solutions.
Over the years, she has been commissioned to do many local
murals: a wine motif for Gilroy’s Westside Grill, a vineyard scene
for Fortino Winery’s Barrell Room, a Venetian plaster for Sarah’s
Vineyard, and most recently a mission and agricultural themed
mural for the Mission City Grill in Santa Clara. She has been an
active member of the Gilroy Rotary Club and is currently serving
as Vice President on their Board of Directors. She is a graduate
of Leadership Gilroy and enjoys painting for her family’s theater
because “we get to create a new reality with every show!”
