FOR DHL AT
BANBURY
GMB has called off industrial action after
members at DHL in Banbury voted to accept
a revised pay offer.
David Day, GMB organiser, said: “GMB
members have voted to accept 3.5 per
cent plus a 27p per hour increase on all base
rates. This takes the hourly rate from £8.43
to £9 an hour and also stops the differentials
from growing.”
This is an excellent pay deal and goes a
long way towards members’ aspirations of
a £10 an hour Living Wage. Praise must go
to the members and also DHL for re-opening
talks and avoiding industrial action.

EQUALITIES
The equalities prize went to the Birmingham
Organised Sister Society – BOSS.
BOSS is a self-organised women’s group
that raised £1,300 for a women’s shelter,
collected toys and clothes and provided
computers to help women with job searches.
CAMPAIGN OF THE YEAR
The Highly Commended Certificate was
collected by Rachel Pincher representing
GMB’s ‘Change for Workers in the Care
Sector’. The campaign messages are to:
• Increase the minimum hourly rate within
the sector to at least the living wage.
• To be recognised as a skilled profession
nationally.
• Instigate minimum standards for training.
• Agree a national ratio of staff to residents.
GMB ASBO
at care home
GMB has issued Rushall Care Home in
Walsall an ASBO over proposals by new
owners to deny members rights at work.
Navigation Care, the new owner,
announced it is to end private consultations
and negotiation with GMB on behalf of
union members working in the care home.
Because of this, Navigation Care was
presented with an ASBO – staff have
a right to be represented by a union.
Navigation Care may refuse to negotiate
with GMB, so we’ll communicate with them
publically from now on and highlight the
unfair treatment of members.
