L ife started growing up in the modest town of Paisley with my Mum, Liz and Brother John with my Gran (Betty) and Granpa (John) just a hop, skip and a jump away. For those of you not familiar with Paisley – I will enlighten you. Paisley is a fairly large town just outside Glasgow with a population of over 74,000. Back in the day, it was well known for its textiles and weaving industries and our famous Paisley Pattern, which is prominent all over the place - and you will most probably own a Paisley Pattern tie, scarf, blouse, shirt and even the odd pair of trousers! Some famous names who grew up there include David Tennant, Paolo Nutini and my fave – Gerard Butler along with a few Scotch whiskey blenders and bottlers – the perfect place eh?! Sure, apart from the odd fighting, drinking, drugs and rock and roll! SMASHING IT AT 30! Michelle Sutherland 54 GLOSS JULY 2015 My childhood and early adulthood was spent in an environment with strong values and traditions, surrounded by great family and friends who instilled the perfect balance of positivity, passion, hard work ethic, and believing that your dreams can be a reality if you have the right mindset. Looking back now I believe there are many, many reasons I had such a grounded upbringing. I spent a lot of time with my trusty baby boomers – Gran and Granpa. My Mum was a single mother working day and
