Safety at Work: Why Reducing the Fear is the Game Changer What is the biggest issue you face in your daily work? Is it a lack of certainty around what you are being asked to do, or how secure your job is? Do you feel hampered by too many constraints, rules and regulations that stop you from getting on with your job, and stifle your ability to come up with new ideas, let alone get anyone to listen to them? Perhaps you’re not convinced your company is telling you the whole truth about its financial status? Uncertainty. Lack of autonomy. Lack of trust. These all hamper productivity and performance and unfortunately too many workplaces allow these issues to grow and fester. Ultimately it costs business big time through increased staff turnover, lower profits and higher levels of absenteeism and presenteeism. And it’s all underpinned by fear, that powerful emotion we ignore at our peril. The missing link is that all business is built on relationships. It’s not just about customer service, but all relationships at all levels within a business. It’s because the human brain is hard wired to connect. We are social animals and we work better together.
