Why I Love Sheila Naish BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER Venice I love Venice, it has such a wonderful feel from the moment you first see it, the ambience, the atmosphere, the excitement. I have been to Venice twice, once staying on the lido and using the water taxi to get about, and the next time for a special birthday and once in a lifetime dream journey on the Orient Express. It is a most luxurious way to travel, and if you get the opportunity, it is a 5 star experience which never disappoints. From Victoria on to the British Pullman rumbling over the Thames onto Folkestone, with a 3 star brunch and fine wine, Eurotunnel by coach, arriving in France and onto the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express’ (VSOE) restored vintage coaches, your luggage already in your carriage. The carriages are beautiful, if a little small. The food and on board 24 hour service is exceptional, and you get your own personal Steward to help with anything. The thrill of dressing up for dinner, again, simply outstanding food, service sitting in the piano bar, and returning to find your carriage transformed ready for the over night sleep... Interesting Fact Venice is sinking at a rate of 1-2 millimetres a year! Top Tip Comfy shoes for walking... you will get lost but easily find your way, part of the fun. The Alpine scenery is spectacular and the arrival into Venice over the causeway is a moment to treasure and never be forgotten. A choice of hand picked hotels, we stayed in the Londres Palace, which was beautiful. Venice itself is like no other place you will ever visit, it’s a maze of canals, small streets, bridges, colourful buildings, history and romance. It simply takes your breath away with each step and corner turned. A truly magical place. Eat and drink further back from St Marks Square... unless you have won the lotto! It is expensive. Recommendation A Gondola ride is a must, either on the Grand Canal, or just around the back canals. Visit as many of the other Islands as you can but definitely the main ones, they each have something special to offer; quaint, colourful and interesting. Find the famous Sam’s bar, and have a cocktail, Humphrey Bogart style... play it again Sam!
