GIN began in 2003 when six high schools in Europe collaborated to raise money to build a school in Ethiopia. It has since grown to incorporate over one hundred schools around the world. A series of worldwide, regional, and local student-run conferences, the collaborative student journalism network, Student News Action, and an online forum help students connect with each other.
