essays, and poems lays out my voice of pleading to be heard. My artworks connects the
destruction of my home, the annihilation of my family, my own hair’s-breath escape from
being shot, the deforestation that robs the gorillas of our habitat- all that has impacted my life.
My message to society is the basic needs of every person on earth should be met: Clean
water, food, fuel to cook food with. I am urging others to stop, to look carefully at nature’s
abundance, to care for the earth, our mother.
Building Tomorrow: Building Tomorrow envisions a world where every child with a desire to
learn has a safe, permanent and local place to do so. Working towards this goal, Building
Tomorrow empowers young people to invest their resources, time and talents in providing
students in East Africa with access to an education. Since Building Tomorrow’s founding in
2006, thousands of students across the US have raised over $600,000 for the construction of
schools in rural Uganda, have developed a strong connection to their global community and
have gained an understanding of the privileges and opportunities we so often take for
granted.In Uganda, each school serves as a source of pride and a catalyst for change within
the community. We have seen roads built, gardens harvested, scholarships funded, teachers
organized, and housing constructed as a direct result of communities being empowered to
help themselves.
Girls on the Run: Girls on the Run® is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to
creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to
boldly pursue her dreams. Meeting twice a week in small teams of 8-20 girls, we teach life
skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The 24-lesson curriculum is
taught by certified Girls on the Run coaches and includes three parts: understanding
ourselves, valuing relationships and teamwork and understanding how we connect with and
shape the world at large.
Latino Student Fund: The Latino Student Fund Scholarship Program was founded in 1994 in
Washington, DC by community leaders, educators and parents who recognized the
overwhelming need to combat school dropout rates in the Latino community by providing
better access to educational opportunities. The Tutoring Program was founded in 1998 to
provide supplemental academic support to at-risk and underprivileged Latino youth. The Listo
and Listo Rapido college preparation courses for high school students were added to our list
of program offerings in 2010. The LSF Access Program officially launched in the fall of 2011.
The Latino Student Fund continues to modify and expand its program offerings to meet the
changing needs of the Latino community.
LearnServe International: LearnServe International sparks high school students’ passion to
make a difference and equips them with the knowledge, tools, and relationships to effectively
drive local solutions to pressing global challenges. We bring together students from all across
the Washington, DC area and prepare them with the skills of business leadership, innovative
problem-solving, and cross-cultural fluency. Then we challenge them to lead community-
