BEST PROVIDERS OF SPECIALIST CARE

EMERGENCY CARE SERVICE PROVIDER OF THE YEAR IN THE ASIA-PACIFIC

REGENCY SPECIALIST HOSPITAL
Regency has established itself as one of the most advanced emergency departments in the Asia-Pacific region by placing great emphasis on experienced staff and high-tech equipment .
It ’ s the only private hospital in Malaysia with an Accident and Emergency Department ( A & E ) providing round-the-clock services by emergency physicians specialised in advanced cardiac life support , resuscitation , trauma , and other lifethreatening situations , Serena Yong Mui Lee , Regency ’ s chief executive officer , told Global Health Asia-Pacific .
These services are becoming more essential in Malaysia , she added , due to the rising trends in deaths caused by ischaemic heart disease , cerebrovascular diseases , and transportation accidents . More than 14,000 patients are treated at the hospital ’ s emergency department every year .
Receiving the Emergency Care Service Provider of the Year in the Asia-Pacific Award is a recognition of the hospital ’ s commitment to saving lives by ensuring patients are treated quickly by a team of competent healthcare professionals , according to Yong .
The A & E department is staffed with a multidisciplinary team of surgeons specialised in cardiothoracic , spine , and orthopaedic surgeries who are ready to handle life-threatening conditions .
“ Being in the healthcare industry , human capital is our focus , and robust medical training frameworks are in place to ensure our healthcare

professionals stay up-to-date with clinical practice guidelines as well as the latest medical advancement ,” she said
The department is also equipped with the latest diagnostic and therapeutic technologies , like the machine to perform extracorporeal membrane oxygenation ( ECMO ), a lifesaving procedure that pumps blood out of the body to remove carbon dioxide and fill it with oxygen before injecting it back into the body .
As a testament to the quality of its care , Regency has been recognised as a stroke-ready hospital by the World Stroke Organisation and has been accredited by the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health ( MSQH ).
The hospital is also strengthening its digital services to provide better and easier-to-deliver care for patients in Malaysia and overseas . As the COVID-19 pandemic broke out , Regency introduced telemedicine services to ensure patients received continuous care , especially those with chronic diseases . Among the services available are tailor-made health and wellness programmes for people across several industries to prevent work hazards and promote employee well-being .
“ In moving towards the new norm , Regency is taking a systematic approach in providing digitally enabled care and embarking on digital transformation to streamline administrative tasks and optimise healthcare professional resources ,” Yong said .
Regency is also committed to improving healthcare education in the community . In 2019 , it organised the Hands to Heart – Save a Life with CPR 2019 event to raise public awareness about the importance of learning to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation ( CPR ) to help people suffering from cardiac arrest . The initiative attracted more than 10,000 participants and was recorded in the Malaysia Book of Records for the largest participation in a CPR event .
In the future , Regency is planning to open up new facilities for a variety of specialities . A 500,000 sq ft new hospital block is under construction and is expected to more than double Regency ’ s bed capacity .
“ The new cancer centre , rehabilitation centre , dialysis centre , operating theatre , daycare services , and medical suites will broaden the scope of our services for our community as well as international patients ,” she said .
