DESERT :
A large , dry , barren region , usually having sandy or rocky soil and little or no vegetation . Deserts lose more water from evaporation than they gain from rain , leaving them with less and less water overtime . Most deserts get less than 25 centimetres ( 9.75 inches ) of rain each year .
ECOSYSTEM :
A biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment , an interconnected system of life .
FJORD :
A long , narrow , deep inlet of the sea between high cliffs .
GRASSLAND :
A region where there are few trees and the average annual precipitation ( rain , snow ) is just enough to support grasses .
HABITAT :
The natural home or environment of an animal , plant , or other living organism .
HABITAT LOSS :
The process whereby natural habitats are damaged or destroyed such that animals and plants can no longer live there , the habitat cannot support life .
HABITAT FRAGMENTATION :
The process where a large , continuous area of habitat is both , reduced in area and divided into two or more distinct fragments .
