Advice on achievement :
When a person does not have a goal or aim , the passion to be the best , fades away . So I set achievable goals and ensure to work hard to attain those goals .
Any mistakes :
Committing mistakes is not usually common in swimming other than when a new stroke has to be learnt . I try to learn from my mistakes as it is the only way to succeed .
Schedule followed :
I practice for 2 hours every morning and evening , 3 days a week at school . I also train at a pool near my house .
Managing swimming and academics :
I work extra hard so that my swimming doesn ' t interfere with my studies .
Anjali Arun ( Grade 12 , GPS - I ) Recipient of PURACKAL JOSEPH MEMORIAL AWARD 15-16 ( Outstanding Student in GPS International )
Interview by Deepti Jayakrishnan ( Communications Secretary ).
Balancing academics and extracurricular activities and excelling in both :
Honestly , it is hard , but it is basically about being focused . Last year I got involved in many extracurricular activities , but before the boards , I pushed everything else aside and paid attention to my studies as I wanted to prove myself .
Role model :
I do not really have one . I want to be independent and well-rounded when I ' m out in the world on my own . I like the thought of responsibility and taking care of people , and try find happiness in the smaller things of life .
Free Time :
I spend time sketching , painting and brushing up on my skills . I ' m also heavily into music .
Advice for the students of today :
It ' s all right to work hard for your parents and to " make them proud " and all , but I think you should work hard for yourself , for your future . Of course , you should make sure you have fun in high school , but when it ' s time to put your nose to the grindstone , think of it as something you want to do for your own personal satisfaction .
