ARE OUR

STUDENTS

1. Six in ten high school students could not find Iraq on a map of the Middle East.

2. Nearly ¾ of students incorrectly believe English is the most widely spoken language.

3. More than half significantly over-estimate the population of the United States.

4. Students in the United States are next to last in a survey in knowledge of current events.

READY?

Simply stated, American students, as a whole, have limited opportunities to prepare for the global innovation age.

Schools must focus on providing every student with a global education.

Here's the proof:

5. Fewer than 10% of our college and university students study abroad.

6. Only one in five states have more than a quarter of their students learning a foreign language, and those students who do, rarely reach proficiency.

7. Of students taking AP exams, not more than 25% of those exams taken in any state are international in nature.

8. Fewer than 1% of American high school students take part in study abroad programs.
