Industry’s finest honoured at
Leaders in Custody awards
Thomas Zeeb, Justin Chapman and many others awarded for their contribution to the industry
over the past year, as SIX, Euroclear and BNP Paribas are all multi-award winners.
G
lobal Custodian recognised the
Leaders in Custody during our
awards ceremony at London’s
prestigious Savoy Hotel in March.
In addition to the array of award
winners listed over the page, Thomas
Zeeb, CEO of SIX Securities Services,
was recognised for his long-stand-
ing commitment to the industry with
a lifetime achievement award.
We also named our first ever Indus-
try Person of the Year, decided by a
live vote held throughout the day. An
astonishing 8,000 votes were cast in a
matter of 12 hours, and in a very close
race, Justin Chapman, global head
of market advocacy & innovation re-
search at Northern Trust, took away
the honour at the end of the night.
Global Custodian held two panel
discussions prior to the awards where
major industry changes were covered.
In the first, experts concluded that the
completion of the ECB’s TARGET2-Se-
curities (T2S) project will act as a ‘cata-
lyst’ for other changes in post-trade Eu-
rope. This was following the completion
of wave four of the project in February.
“We adopted the T2S strategy about
four years ago with the potential of a
harmonised market with single bank
access and to unbundle the services
we buy as a global custodian,” said
Northern Trust’s Chapman, our In-
dustry Person of the Year winner.
“Now we view T2S as a catalyst
and a stepping stone for wider post-
trade changes and in the next 18-24
months, people will be looking at
how they can leverage T2S and in-
crease their efficiencies through it.”
