Honoring our Heritage,
Looking to the Future
The Chicano Federation of San Diego County Celebrates 50 Years
F
or the last five decades, the Chicano Federation has
been at the forefront of taking action to meet the
challenges faced by residents of diverse communities
throughout our region. The organization was
established at a pivotal time in the Southern California
civil rights movement, and provides empowering opportunities for
all, specifically in the areas of quality child development programs,
affordable housing and other important services for San Diego
County families.
The Chicano Federation is special to Sycuan. They have been
proud supporters for almost two decades because they believe
in their mission. “The programs of the Chicano Federation break
the cycles of abuse, addiction, and poverty,” Chairman Cody J.
Martinez of the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation shared
with Giving Back Magazine. “These are all difficult obstacles to
overcome and without people who are willing to devote their time

and effort to promote change, it is almost impossible. We owe a
great debt of gratitude to the founders, staff and volunteers who
have fought for equality and civil rights for all of us. It was not long
ago that our own people were in a position of need. We take the
role of benefactor seriously and make giving back a priority.”
As the Sycuan Tribe celebrates its own 35 Year Anniversary, it
congratulates the Chicano Federation of San Diego County on
50 life-changing and groundbreaking years of service to the
community. “We look forward to seeing friends, old and new, at
the 50th Anniversary Ball in May. It is a time to recognize their
accomplishments and commit to continuing the visionary work
into the future.”
The Chicano Federation’s 50th Anniversary Ball is May 11, 2019
at the historic US Grant Hotel in Downtown San Diego.
