‘I’m a Girl Gone
International
because I have an
adventurous soul,
a natural passion
for positive social
impact and I am a
world wanderlusting
go getter.’
We travel
the world for enjoyment and pleasure, whether fulfillment steams
from a need for relaxation, self-discovery or an
escape from reality, travel is a glorious thing.
Most importantly, is this new way of travel
sustainable?
Whether you travel because it paints a better
picture of your life or simply because it makes
your soul feel wild and free, sustainable travel
should always be a priority when heading off for
your next adventure.
What is Sustainable Travel?
From the policy guide of the UNEP and UNWTO,
2005, sustainable travel is defined as ‘tourism
that takes full account of its current and future
economic, social and environmental impacts,
addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the
environment and host communities.’ In a more
simplistic way, try imagining tourism that meets
the needs of our current generation without compromising the needs of future generations to
come.
Who am I to Define Sustainable Travel?
I am not claiming myself as an expert, however I
do have a serious passion for travel and believe
that as a freelance travel blogger I am one of
many whom can help spread the word and make
a positive difference in the way travellers explore
the globe.
At a very young age I was taught that exploring
the crayfish under the river rocks was a much
more exciting day out than a day spent at the
amusement park. I was raised by my loving
mother who devoted all hours of the day to
teaching and guiding children with learning
disabilities. I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to
be when I grew older, but I knew I wanted to help
make a positive difference the way my mother
always has.
