The best times to go If you want to see a festive and
colourful Oaxaca, plan your visit for September so
that you can celebrate the Mexican Independence –
fireworks and plenty of traditional food inclusive. For
a combination of Catholic and Pre-Hispanic traditions,
arrive for Day of the Dead when cemeteries transform
into living altars with food, flowers and music to remember our loved ones.
The best food in town If you had some Oaxacan
chocolate and still can’t see why it is so traditional for
Mexico and Oaxaca, then you must try mole. This is a
traditional sauce which blends chocolate, corn, chilies and a variety of spices. It is usually served with
chicken and Mexican rice and the taste is sweet and
sour. ‘Azucena Zapoteca’ comes in varying degrees of
sweetness.
