There were lots of emotional hiccups, mainly when I got frustrated or felt inadequate,
but gradually over the course of a year
I started to feel the improvement. As my
physical ability developed, my confidence
grew and that has enabled me to start enjoying exercise again.
In parallel, I started a course of CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy). I didn’t realise
that I needed it, but talking to a clinical
psychologist made me appreciate that my
psychological wellbeing had been impacted. It was challenging but CBT turned out
to be an essential part of my recovery. I’ve
learnt techniques to help me understand
my concerns, values and objectives in life.
This enabled me to re–evaluate, re-focus
and reconnect with myself which helped
me to reclaim control of my future.
