Initiative & Problem Solving Skills Unexpected events and occurrences are prone to happen anywhere, it’s how we respond to them that counts. Employers want to know that you can ‘roll with the punches’ and a successful period abroad is full of examples. Problem solving skills are a key requirement within most positions and organisations. Being able to adapt and use these skills in a foreign environemnt with stand in you good stead and boost your CV. Task Think of examples of when you have successfully done the following – • Identified the existence and cause of a problem • Brains tormed potential solutions with a positve outcome • Evaluated alternative courses of action and successfullly • completed them • Undertook tasks that were unfamiliar or risky • Applied information in new or broader context • Identified new problems or successfully implemented solutions to problems • Modified your way of life to maximize exposure and opportunities for learning in your local community
