Seabraut, best place to run Shopping Meet the locals Most GGIs shop in Kringlan, the shopping centre, because the tourist street Laugevegur is so expensive. Most people buy second-hand and flea markets are popular. Try Bio Paradise on Hverfisgata, it has monthly flea markets in the summer with reasonable prices. Iceland is a hugely creative place where you will find a lot of kooky stuff and handmade creations. Hang with the Icelanders, they’re very laid back. While everyone speaks English, roll out some Icelandic phrases and you will be welcomed with open arms. Laugevegar tends to attract the tourists but you will meet Icelanders off the beaten track. Grab one of the many free maps, rent a bike and just cycle away. Don’t restrict yourself to downtown. Explore residential areas such as Hafnafjordur, which is about 20 mins from the main bus station (hlemmur). Go for a run Run along the Seabraut which translates as sea route. Start behind the Harpa Music Hall and run away from it along that road. It’s quite a distance, but it takes you to Bjork’s old house! It is made of rusted metal with lots of symbols and has funny artwork outside. And geese. Don’t get too close. They hiss. Catch a film Bio Paradis is good for indie and foreign films. The cinema in the Kringlan shopping centre shows mainly blockbusters. Films aren’t dubbed here, just subtitled, so you can see a film in your native language.
