People travelling or living abroad often find themselves faced with even more opportunities to indulge in sugar. All those new foods to sample and enjoy, the excess alcohol consumption as a result of making more of an effort to go out and socialise. Convenience eating and seeking out comfort in the form of sweet treats from home are all potentially hazardous sugar zones for the Girl Gone International. Why is sugar such a problem? Refined sugar has no nutritional value and besides weight gain, excess sugar has also been linked to diabetes, hypertension, high blood pressure, depression, fatigue, acne and hypoglycemia. It’s quite a list. On top of all that, brain scans have revealed that sugar could be as addictive as cocaine! So could you give it up? We were curious to know how a self- confessed chocolate and dessert lover would survive a month off sugar so we asked Girl Gone International Lorna Wilson to keep a diary of her 4 weeks without sugar.
