What do you love about life at sea?
The sunsets! Even if you’ve had a tough
day, going for a jog around deck whilst
sailing into the gorgeous sunsets across
the ocean makes you stop for a minute and
think about how lucky you are. I’ve never
seen the stars shine so bright as when
we’ve been in the middle of the Caribbean
Sea.
What do you wish you’d been told
before you came on the ship?
The guys are all married. It’s common for
men on the ship to have a ‘home wife’
and a ‘ship wife’ and navigating your way
around them isn’t easy! As a general rule
steer clear of anyone in officer whites!
How long are your work contracts
and breaks?
Generally it’s 6 months on, 2 months off.
Contracts can go up to 8 months and
vacations can be anywhere from 3 to 12
weeks.
Your best time off the ship?
When I had time off on the company’s
private island with my boyfriend. Most
people were working so we had the beach
to ourselves. We spent the day kayaking,
enjoying a beach BBQ, playing volleyball,
relaxing in hammocks and swimming in the
Bahamas - and getting paid for it!
“My advice to women
pursuing this career is to stop
thinking about it and do it! In the
grand scheme of things, 6 months
isn’t a long time to be away. The
things you see, people you meet
and the hard work will give you a
fresh and more positive
outlook on life.”
