Russian isn ’ t that difficult to pick up . This may in part be down to having learnt other languages because conveniently , many words are similar to either English , Spanish or German . It may also be because I am unable to escape into the safety of my own language . I have to communicate to survive the day-to-day . So my dream to be a translator for the EU is starting to look attainable . Until then , I am here teaching English and drinking vodka in a fur hat feeling vulnerable , exposed and buzzing off the beauty of culture shock . I have never been happier .
