LCOME Welcome to the 18th annual Gimli Film Festival! I’m very proud of the Festival’s exceptional growth this year. We welcome many new supporters and foundations to GFF along with industry support provincially and nationally. We have grown our staff team and infrastructure assuring our place as Manitoba’s premier film festival and the largest rural film festival in Canada. We have expanded our programming and special events and continue to showcase the best in Canadian, circumpolar and international cinema. Our newest initiatives spotlight women-driven cinema as we strive toward gender parity in our programming. The Future is Female* is a new film series showcasing up-and-coming female directors and a mentorship program aimed at engaging female filmmakers for a full day of women-centred programming. Each year the GFF presents four major awards, notably the Alda Award and the Jack Clements “Livin’ the Dream” Lifetime Achievement Award. This year we are proud to present three new awards, Best Manitoba Director presented by the Directors Guild of Canada and Best Performance for male and female leads in our Manitoba Short Films in Competition program presented by ACTRA Manitoba. We look forward to celebrating with you at our new Saturday evening event, Rock and Roll Movie Night. It is both a film screening and a concert - an exciting new cinematic experience! As our Festival grows, we stay true to our vision showcasing our vibrant culture, community and strengthening our belief in the power of film to enrich our lives.
