Flowers
For a formal , more elegant look , you would use only one or two types of flower and some greens , compared to more varieties in your casual arrangement . And , the flower colors would be of the same color family . In a casual setting , more vibrant colors take the stage ; softer perhaps , in an elegant décor .
Treasures
Your most treasured pieces will always make your table special . So , don ’ t be afraid to put Great-Great Grandmother ’ s delicate porcelain figurine on the table or as an accent piece on the sideboard . Beautiful mementos make for not only a beautiful table but beautiful memories of special times with family and friends .
Time for China
The elegance of both china and silver creates a little more balance that a formal table requires . Linens and lace bring another touch of finery . But as you can see from both tables , the base cloth remained ; I just added some lace for the formal setting . The napkins stay the same , but you certainly could use more casual ones for your whimsical table .
Bunnies
Putting elements of whimsy still can have a formal feel . Keep your collectible bunnies , birds , etc , in place , but use the ones that are made of porcelain or glass . This helps keep the elegance , yet still has that “ conversation starter effect !
Let There Be Light
Your candles , beautiful silver or crystal candlesticks keep the theme going . Long tapers add a very elegant touch and stimulate our senses just as well as their short casual counterparts !
Blending Old & New
Don ’ t be afraid to place your modern , newly acquired items that you love with those that were handed down to you by your ancestors . If you love it , there ’ s no way it won ’ t add to the beauty of our table .
