Whoa ! Here it is — 48 pages . We love that this little magazine is getting bigger . We want to thank our advertisers , contributors , distribution points and you for making Gilroy Today so successful .
We are never short of fun and interesting people , places and things to include in its pages . We only wish we could put more in . And we love to hear from you . So , now we have a Gilroy Today Facebook page ; like how COOL is that . Of course , I ’ m not sure quite sure how it all works — you will either be a friend , a fan , or a “ like ” — I think they are as confused as I am but it ’ s fun — so visit our “ discussion ” section and let us know if you have an idea for a future article or subject we can cover .
I feel so connected these days . Now if we could just get our website updated . It ’ s on our to-do list but I wouldn ’ t hold my breathe if I were you . Someday , I promise .
Be sure to check out what our little friend “ Riley ” is doing in “ Growing Up In Gilroy ” ( page 16 ). And I want to welcome Dorie Sugay , Executive Director of Visiting Angels . Her article “ Aging With An Attitude ” ( page34 ) is great . Being one of those “ 50 somethings ,” I can so relate . I especially like the idea of “ Radicalizing ” my life . I am so there .
It ’ s always fun to recognize people in our community that are “ pros ” and we are proud to acknowledge Gilroy ’ s own martial arts expert , Linda Pulido . She ’ s won eleven world championships ( page 12 ).
There are so many great non-profit organizations in Gilroy and the Gilroy Assistance League ( GAL ) is one of them ( page 22-23 ). Originally a chapter of the Children ’ s Home Society , this group of 35 women puts on the “ Impressions Home & Garden Tour ” yearly and awards grants to many youth-oriented organizations . I am proud to say I am a member of this wonderful group of women .
What can I say ? The Giacalone home is one of my favorites . We have known Patty and Joe for a long time and have had the opportunity to enjoy their lovely home on several occasions . Their home is so reflective of them — classy , with a ton of character ( pages 24-26 ).
Don ’ t forget to mark your calendars for all the fun things happening this summer in downtown Gilroy ( page 28-29 ). The “ Gilroy Live ” concert series is so much fun . And you won ’ t want to miss this year ’ s “ Fun Run .”
