THORACIC MEDICAL CENTRE OF THE YEAR IN THE ASIA-PACIFIC

INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR THORACIC SURGERY
The International Centre for Thoracic Surgery ( ICTS ) in Singapore offers a full range of thoracic services , including surgery for the lungs , oesophagus , and chest wall .
Located at Mount Elizabeth Novena Medical Centre , ICTS subscribes to the idea that the marriage of technology and medicine serves to help improve lives . In this way , robot-assisted surgery allows a surgeon to perform procedures with more precision and control compared to conventional techniques . Since it ’ s performed through tiny incisions , robotic surgery leads to quicker recovery for patients , with shorter hospital stays , minimal scarring , and reduced risk of infection .
ICTS ’ director and senior consultant surgeon , Dr Aneez Ahmed , has been a practitioner in the field of thoracic surgery with a special interest in thoracic oncology for more than a decade and a half . He is the first in Southeast Asia to attain a level III certificate in robotic thoracic surgery and is also one of only two accredited surgeons in Singapore trained to perform robotic thoracic surgery and the only proctor for thoracic surgeons in the region .
After completing his cardiothoracic training at Singapore ’ s National University Hospital , he passed his fellowship exams at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh . Prior to starting his private practice , Dr Aneez served as the head of service of thoracic surgery in the department of general surgery at Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore .

Dr Aneez Ahmed
in Europe and the United States for advanced training in robotic thoracic surgery , he now leads the training programme for thoracic surgeons in Southeast Asia and South Asia . He was vice-president of the Robotic Surgical Society of Singapore in 2016 and was named as its president in 2019 .
His special interest in chest wall surgery led him to be a pioneer in chest wall resection and reconstruction . Dr Aneez also performed the world ’ s first 3D-printed polymer rib cage reconstruction .
Besides his clinical works , Dr Aneez is passionate about teaching . Since 2010 , he has run the annual Advanced Thoracic Nursing Course at Tan Tock Seng Hospital to train nurses from all over Asia . He is also an examiner
for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh .
Dr Aneez belongs to various international thoracic surgical groups , including serving as a thoracic domain board member at the Asian Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery and as the current secretary general of the Southeast Asian Society of Thoracic Surgery .
