The First Global Health Asia-Pacific Medical Centre and Aesthetic Clinic Awards
The new project aims to honour the best medical professionals and institutions in the region
As many readers may know , Global Health Asia-Pacific holds an annual event celebrating the best hospitals in the region . In light of that event ’ s success , we have also started a new award series to recognise the region ’ s top doctors and medical clinics — the Global Health Asia-Pacific Medical Centres and Clinics Awards .
The first event was held at the Grand Hyatt Singapore on December 10 and was possible thanks to the huge support from Parveen Kumar , the hotel ’ s General Manager , and his very efficient and outstanding team . The event saw awards given out to some 80 clinics and doctors .
In the category of lifetime contributions to the medical profession , Professor Christopher Chen and Dr Beng Kian Siew Jimmy were each the deserving winners of the Lifetime Achievement Award .
Professor Chen is an in vitro fertilisation ( IVF ) pioneer who ’ s made numerous important contributions to advance the cause of fertility medicine , such as achieving the conception of the first triplets through IVF and freezing a human egg for the first time .
Dr Beng ’ s contributions to the field of urology have been similarly noteworthy . He set up one of the first centres in the world for extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy , a non-surgical procedure that breaks kidney stones with shock waves produced by an x-ray machine .
